LOOKING AT THE ROOT OF OUR FAITH & WALKING FOR VENEZUELA

LOOKING AT THE ROOT OF OUR FAITH & WALKING FOR VENEZUELA

Last Saturday our community have an activity with some parishioners of Saint Lorenzo Ruiz’s parish. After being participating in the NYD (National Youth Day) held in Cebu after Holy Week we committed ourselves to approach closer to our parish youth and our aspirants are collaborating with the youth in the daily events of parish’s “Flores de mayo”. This collaboration gave us the opportunity to invite the youth to our house and propose them to have a pilgrimage from our parish to emblematic point of Fort San Pedro, which was built by Spanish under the command of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi. After the first expedition of Ferdinand Magellan in 1521 this was the beginning of the Christianisation of the Islands, and the Philippines will celebrate the 500 hundred jubilee of Christian faith in 2021. As preparation of the jubilee, this year has been set as the year of the youth with the theme “Filipino Youth in Mission: Beloved, Gifted, Empowered”.

Our aim with this pilgrimage was to enhance the faith of the youth through the knowledge of the history of their faith and to awake them to the commitment of being in Mission because they have been beloved, gifted and empowered by the love of God. In addition to this aim we invited them to pray for our sisters and brothers in Venezuela join them trough the sacrifice and prayer.

Meeting at 5:00 am at the parish we started to walk from there to Fort San Pedro, praying the Holy Rosary while walking. We stopped at Basilica of Sto.Niño and at the feet of Magellan’s Cross we pray the Via Lucis finishing our prayer attending the Holy Mass at Basilica. After the mass we have a simple snack and continue our journey to Fort San Pedro where with awesome learnt about the first steps of the faith in Philippines and the miracles of Sto.Niño.

We asked to Sto.Niño to strengthen our sisters and brothers in Venezuela and sent to them the consolation they need in this long and difficult situation in which they are living.

This time due to some other activities in the parish many of the youth was not able to join the journey but the number was not a problem, we were twelve as the twelve apostles walking with determination and strong faith because where two of you are gathered in my name there am I with you. The experience was so good that we want to repeat again, next time with more youth.
